Going to the Vet
Tchoup's been vomiting lately. We went to the vet. That pissed him off, but not enough to make him stop vomiting. Last night we came home to find he'd destroyed a toy he'd previously been completely uninterested in, ate some of it's stuffing and then vomited that up. Great.

Snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It took Tchoup a few trips in and out of the house to decide how he felt about. Verdict day one: Thumbs Up!
Day two: Who cares?

Interloper
A lab wandered into the backyard this morning so I went to the door to try to call him over and see who he belonged to. By the time I got the door open he'd disappeared again, so I called for him, but he didn't come. I stepped back to shut the door and stumbled over Tchoup, who had gotten between my feet to peer out at the dog, back arched and fur up (though clearly under my protection). He scurried back into the house a few feet, looking traumatized and entranced. Then back to his perch on the window. No interest in going out again this morning.

Possum Encouter
Tchoup met his first possum Thursday night. Right at the door to the house. Confusion ensued as the two faced off for upwards of 15 minutes to try to determine whether or not the other was friend or foe. Conclusion: Foe. There was hissing - did you know that possums can hiss? - and then running around like idiots, with the possum trying to come into the house when I was trying to convince Tchoup to make a run for it into the house. Both took off into different sets of bushes and Tchoup showed up the next morning around 6am, none the worse for wear.
But no more outdoor adventures for him.

Settling In
Turns out, however, that despite the abrupt transport to Seattle, which rankled, it's not such a bad place for kittehs. There was ample room, many things to sniff, and he had free reign of the space. Within 24 hours he was feeling free enough to join J at the desk and make a thorough patrol of the perimeter, though it did take about 5 days to feel brave enough to venture outside.
Kitteh Travels
After about a month in Colorado, complete with a week long stay in a vet as a boarder, Tchoup traveled via plane to his final destination - Seattle, WA. He got to fly in the cabin this time, ending up traveling beside a small dog. Despite a fit to get him into the kitty carrier and mewling all the way to the airport, as well as a couple ill-conceived escape attempts through the netting, he shut up at the airport and froze completely when it was time to go through security, which was lucky as he was easy to get in and out of the carrying case. He remained silent at the baggage carousel and then again at the curb as we waited for pick up. Several people stopped to say how lovely he was and well-behaved. But his silent, rigid staring was not good behavior. He was frozen with fury and plotting vengeance.

"My favorite toy"
The mouse with a feather tail didn't travel with him, but was easily replaced. He sure loves licking the feathers.
International Cat of Mystery
Tchoup, the Rwandan cat, has officially and successfully immigrated to the US. He's managed to adapt somewhat quickly to his life in Boulder County, dry food, and the new garage he calls home. Creature comforts like a cozy bed and plenty of delicious leftovers from excellent dinners surely cushioned the adjustment, though the jetlag and righteous indignation of having to spend 3 days in a cat carrier being handled by strangers led him to have quite the attitude upon arrival (and quite a lot to say) followed by over a week o weirdness. Up to date on US shots, in addition to his Rwandan rabies vaccine, he's ready to own this neighborhood.

Zanzibar kitteh joined us for a drink
Zanzibar is full of cats, who particularly like to frequent the restaurants for the seafood. I wonder how many kitties get fed during high season? It's low season right now and it looks to be slim pickings for the kitties.

Travelling
Tchoup will continue his Rwanda adventures in the upcoming months without us, as our paths diverge for a few months. Then, Tchoup will be starting his greatest adventure yet - intercontinental travel! Tchoup will be joining us in Brussels to continue on to the US. We've engaged an expediter to help with the logistics in July when we'll no longer be there and some friends/colleagues have been gracious enough to let the cat live at the house until it's time to go.

Tick!
Tchoup had a big tick right behind his ear. We tried suffocating it with chemicals and it didn't work. Then Josh managed to get it off with tweezers and kill it. It was bloody and gross - poor Tchoup. He was demoralized by the process and grumpy.
